This image was created by Mary Cassatt and is titled Study for "Evening"
Under the Lamp Two Women at a Lamp. It was made in 1879-80. Hatching is defined as an area of closely spaced parallel lines or hatches. As the arrows indicated the hatches in this piece of art are used to create a darker part of the image. The closer the parallel lines are the darker the part of the art seems to look. The lines are vivid and extensive in this image almost everything would be hatching from the heads, to the clothing and even the lamp and table.
